Gangtok, June 15: The Sikkim government has sought urgent assistance from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to airlift approximately 1,400 tourists stranded in North Sikkim due to major landslides caused by heavy rainfall.

The torrential rains have resulted in severe infrastructure damage, washing away roads and bridges, leaving many areas inaccessible and tourists unable to continue their journeys or return to safer locations.

In response, the state government has requested the IAF to deploy helicopters and other resources to evacuate the stranded individuals.
