Kohima, April 16:<\/strong> Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland has been experiencing an acute water shortage. At least 80 % of the daily total water requirement not being met.<\/p>\n

The commissioning of the Zartli Water Supplies to Kohima town, which can pump up to 3.80 million litres of water per day, the capital still has an 80 % water shortage.<\/p>\n

While dedicating a 2 lakh litre tank to harvest rainwater at Gariphema village, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio<\/a><\/span> said, \u201cWe still don\u2019t have a water supply connection at my bungalow<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chief Minister emphasized proper water management to meet rising demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the major reason we don\u2019t have enough water is poor water management<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Remembering the old days, Rio said: \u201cWe never thought of buying water in the past but water has become a priceless part and a lucrative business for water supply vehicles in recent times<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to tap Dalikou water supplies if Kohima is to have enough water. To meet the needs of growing villages, we need to find good water sources<\/strong>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Hotovi Khana, the chief engineer of the water resources department, said Jal Shakti Abhivan Phase-II was launched in 2019 to cover 256 water-stressed districts across the country, including Longleng in Nagaland.<\/p>\n
