Manipur, April 25: <\/strong>Remembering the brave Manipuri heroes who laid down their lives for their motherland during the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri war, chief minister N Biren Singh called upon the people to follow in their footsteps for ushering in the overall development of the state.<\/p>\n

To honor the gallant Manipuri warriors, including Major Paona Brajabashi who paid the supreme sacrifice in the battle of Khongjom at Khongjom village in Thoubal district for the cause of their motherland, the day is celebrated on April 23 every year as \u2018Khongjom Day<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Talking to reporters after attending the state-level observance at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Biren said, \u201cLet us follow the footsteps of our forefathers with a sense of nationalism and work hard together by maintaining unity among different communities for bringing overall development in the state.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In view of the rising cases of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state had decided to restrict the observation to just paying floral tribute and offering Tarpan devoid of large public gatherings at the complex.<\/p>\n

On his arrival at the complex, Biren Singh led the other dignitaries, including deputy CM Y Joykumar Singh, ministers, MPs, MLAs, top civil and police officials, in laying floral tribute atop Kheba hillock and later to the statue of Paona Brajabashi located at the foothills.<\/p>\n
