The two frogs tied the knot with aplomb after having taken a dip in the river and dressed in fancy wedding clothes.<\/p>\n<p>In a video that has been going viral on social media, the dressed-up frogs can be seen getting married as two women hold them up, fully dressed, for the nuptials.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 596px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-11156-1\" width=\"596\" height=\"480\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/O0so3uCSKxreX72I.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/O0so3uCSKxreX72I.mp4\">https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/O0so3uCSKxreX72I.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>In accordance with Hindu wedding traditions, the toads even exchanged garlands following which the male toad put sindoor (vermillion) on the forehead of the female toad to signify her as his wife.<\/p>\n<p>The unusual sight, however, is not new to India. According to reports, the custom is meant to appease Lord Indra, the god of rain in the Hindu pantheon.<\/p>\n<p>By getting the frogs married in the \u2018<strong>Banger Biye<\/strong>\u2019 ceremony, villagers hope to please the rain god in order to ensure good rainfall which in turn will protect their tea gardens from drought.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Also Read<\/span>:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/tripura-police-bust-big-fat-wedding-for-flouting-covid-19-norms-watch-video\/\">Tripura Police bust \u2018Big Fat Wedding\u2019 for flouting Covid-19 Norms | Watch video<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, in a similar incident, two frogs were married in Karnataka\u2019s Udupi in the month of May to ensure good rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>In a twist, if fate, however, the frogs were later \u2018<strong>divorced<\/strong>\u2019 within just two months of the marriage due to excessive rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bharatiya_Janata_Party\">Bharatiya Janta Party<\/a><\/span> leader Lalita Yadav had organized a wedding for two frogs in Madhya Pradesh as well as part of \u2018<strong>Ashad Utsav<\/strong>\u2019 to mollify the deities of rain and ensure fertility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tripura, May 6: Even as the rest of the country grapples with rising cases of Covid-19, a village in Tripura has been busy with the nuptials of two frogs in the hope of pleasing rain gods.
