{"id":11406,"date":"2021-05-16T16:39:15","date_gmt":"2021-05-16T11:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=11406"},"modified":"2021-05-16T18:14:07","modified_gmt":"2021-05-16T12:44:07","slug":"new-variant-of-sars-cov2-identified-in-arunachal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/new-variant-of-sars-cov2-identified-in-arunachal\/","title":{"rendered":"New Variant of SARS-COV2 identified in Arunachal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Arunachal, May 16:<\/strong> The Indian Council of Medical Research\u2019s (ICMR) Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), has identified the B.1.617.2 variant of SARS-COV2 in Arunachal in DNA sequencing results of six Covid-19 samples sent by Tomo Riba Institute of Health &amp; Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).<\/p>\n<p>Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trihms.org\/\">TRIHMS<\/a><\/span>) media cell in-charge Dr Jego Ori on Saturday said that the initial results of genomic sequencing of the COVID-19 samples show that the Indian strain of the Coronavirus B.1.617.2 variant has been identified in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 15 samples were sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) in Kolkata, and 10 samples to the RMRC in Dibrugarh.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 10 samples processed by the ICMR-RMRC, six were suitable for sequencing.<\/p>\n<p>All six samples were identified in Arunachal with the B.1.617 variant of SARS-COV2, also called the Indian strain\/double variant.<\/p>\n<p>The SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.617 which consists of at least 3 sub-lineages \u2014 B.1.617.1, B.1.617.2 and B.1.617.3 \u2014 has been classified as a \u201c<strong>variant of concern<\/strong>\u201d by the World Health Organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The variant has been found prevalent largely in Maharashtra and Delhi that have been severely hit by the devastating second wave of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The B.1.617 variant is believed to be partly responsible for India\u2019s devastating second wave of the pandemic that began this February.
