Guwahati, June 18:<\/strong> Four-time Congress MLA of Assam\u2019s Mariani constituency Rupjyoti Kurmi on Friday resigned from the party and all set to join the BJP on June 21.<\/p>\n

43-year-old Kurmi had tendered his resignation to Assam assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary at his assembly office in Guwahati.<\/p>\n

MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi said that he also sent his resignation letter to Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and will join the BJP<\/a><\/span> party on June 21.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Congress party has expelled Kurmi for his anti-party activities.<\/p>\n

Kurmi who is a tea tribe community leader has been elected to the Assam assembly from the Mariani constituency since 2006.<\/p>\n

Hitting out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Rupjyoti Kurmi said that, when Rahul Gandhi entered into the party, the Congress party is in bad shape across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Rahul Gandhi was not in the party and Sonia took the leadership of the party in 2003, then an atmosphere was created for the Congress in the country. In 2004 the Congress party came into power at the centre 2004. But the Congress party is in bad shape across the country since Rahul Gandhi has come<\/strong>,\u201d Rupjyoti Kurmi said.<\/p>\n
