Imphal, June 23:\u00a0<\/strong>It will be termed as a breakthrough in the history of the department of obstetrics and gynecology of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, four COVID-19 C-section (Caesarean) births, including two critical cases, were successfully performed in a span of 12 hours.<\/p>\n

As per the statement issued to the media, two cases of C-section (one had dense adhesion), one breech in labor, and one fetal distress (this case had atonic PPH) were also done at the beginning of a weeklong duty at RIMS.<\/p>\n

Senior resident Dr. Manjushree, Dr. Pavithra and Dr. Florence, and Dr. Dhivya Bharathi, a final year PG student of obstetrics and gynecology department, along with a team of doctors \u2014 Dr. Magdaline, Dr. V Vasantharajan, and Dr. Brati Mukhopadhyay from the anesthesiology department \u2014 were involved in the Caesarean section<\/a><\/span>, RIMS stated. They managed COVID-19 OT as well as COVID-19 ICU, it stated.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nafisa of the pediatric department was also involved in resuscitating the newborn baby in distress and bringing it back to life, it further said.<\/p>\n

The major contribution of operation theatre staff nurses, Zillah, Manglembi, Geetarani, Bimola, Monorama, and Ambika, OT assistant, Munal, OT attendants, CRED staff, and the ambulance drivers all have made the marathon cesarean operations easier, it added.<\/p>\n

Earlier, RIMS had also announced that as many as 25 women who tested positive for COVID-19 during their pregnancy had successfully delivered their babies at the hospital since April 1. Of the 25 women, 11 underwent C-Section while 14 had normal deliveries, it said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
