Manipur, July 9:<\/strong> The Manipur Government focuses its concern on the Kanglatongbi to Kangpoki forest “reserved<\/strong>” area, in mids of the surge of covid cases in the state.<\/p>\n

While attending the 1st mass tree plantation at Mangjol village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur CM\u00a0 N Biren Sing was quoted saying, “All lands belong to the state Government<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

In 2020, the state government had released an order to declare the Koubru range as a reserved area. In May 2021 Manipur’s forest, Environment and climate change minister, Awangbou Newmai, asserted that Mount Korobu falls under the Indian Forest Act,1927, while the tribe residing there is unaware of the act.<\/p>\n

The Manipur failed to acknowledge that the rights of the forest belong to the Kuki tribe. The Kuki Tribe to date did not agree with the government regarding their rights of ancestral land. The government overlooked and completely disregarded their interest and proclaimed it as a reserved land.<\/p>\n

Even after the local CSos time and again requesting the government for a meeting to reach an amicable decision, the government has paid little heed to the need of the tribes.<\/p>\n
