{"id":14476,"date":"2021-10-04T20:20:59","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T14:50:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=14476"},"modified":"2021-10-05T09:29:16","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T03:59:16","slug":"assam-cong-suspends-mla-arrested-for-provocative-statements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/assam-cong-suspends-mla-arrested-for-provocative-statements\/","title":{"rendered":"Assam Cong suspends MLA arrested for provocative statements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Guwahati, October 04: <\/strong>Days after\u00a0he was arrested for his \u201ccontroversial remarks\u201d on eight people killed in February 1983, the Assam Cong on Monday suspended legislator Sherman Ali Ahmed for \u201crepeatedly violating the party\u2019s discipline\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Assam Cong general secretary Bobbeeta Sharma said on Monday that state unit president Bhupen Kumar Borah suspended the MLA <strong>\u201cwith immediate effect for repeatedly violating party discipline\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Assam Congress Legislature Party (<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"http:\/\/assamassembly.gov.in\/mla-2016.html\">CLP<\/a><\/span>) had recommended disciplinary action against Ahmed on the same charge.<\/p>\n<p>The Congress had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Ahmed for <strong>\u201cdamaging the party\u2019s image\u201d<\/strong> ahead of by-polls in the state and for<strong> \u201cmaking communally sensitive comments with the intent to destroy social harmony\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahmed was arrested on Saturday for making provocative statements over last month\u2019s violent eviction drive in Darrang district that claimed two lives. He was remanded to two days in police custody by a city court on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The legislator has been charged under Section 153 and 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Ahmed had justified the killing of 8 people in Darrang district around four decades back at the height of the statewide agitation against illegal infiltrators.
