Twitter, Dec 12:<\/strong> The Twitter account of PM Narendra Modi was compromised for a brief period, the PM’s Office (PMO) tweeted on Sunday. However, the account was secured once the matter was escalated to the microblogging site.<\/p>\n

The compromised account was hacked during the period when a tweet was sent falsely declaring that India had formally adopted Bitcoin as their legal tender and that they were going to distribute the digital currency to citizens.<\/p>\n

“The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored<\/strong>,” PMO India tweeted.<\/p>\n
