Meghalaya, Dec 13:<\/strong> In a decision taken by its central body, the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) will hold a sit-in demonstration next month just next to the All India Radio in Shillong. In December at Shillong, MUPSTA’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) had decided on the aforementioned action.<\/p>\n

The Organising Committee Publicity Secretary of MUPSTA Central Body said that in Meghalaya, the government has refused to upgrade the 844 Adhoc Upper Primary Schools to deficit schools. “We have taken this decision because the government has remained silent<\/strong>,” EG War stated.<\/p>\n

In 2018, a government official assured the teachers of Adhoc Upper Primary School that it would be upgraded to deficit status at a Teachers Conference in Asanang, Tura, West Garo Hills.<\/p>\n

However, no action has been taken to fulfil their demands as of today. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui is also being slammed by the association for his statement that the government cannot upgrade all Adhoc Upper Primary Schools in Meghalaya into deficit schools.<\/p>\n

On the day of the agitation, all the members are urged to mobilize in unity so that pressure can be put on the government to implement the demands.<\/p>\n

MUPSTA had complained earlier to Shillong’s Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) about how school management committees were deducting teachers’ salaries in the range of Rs. 500 to Rs 6000.<\/p>\n

According to its complaint, the Association recommended that the Director direct the Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEO) to issue a directive to the school management committees for them to stop this practice immediately. In a press release, the Association stated that if the management continues to use unfair means, it will serve a legal notice.<\/p>\n

According to a release from EG War, the organising-publicity secretary of MUPSTA, the Association has also asked all upper primary school teachers to come forward and disclose their problems so that MUPSTA will be able to deal with them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
