Manipur, Dec 15:<\/strong> The Manipur Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal announced Tuesday that as many as 8,648 licensed firearms of the total 25,299 registered ones have been deposited with police stations across the state, in advance of next year’s Assembly elections.<\/p>\n

Due to a few recent incidents of violence in the state, the CEO said the action was taken to curb pre-poll violence.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by Agarwal during a briefing to the media on the various measures the state election commission is taking to ensure a smooth election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe claim and objection period for the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls has ended<\/strong>,\u201d he said. A total of 1.4 lakh forms have been received during the SSR period. Form disposal is underway and will be completed by December 20.<\/p>\n

The final electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2022, according to the schedule of the Election Commission of India.<\/p>\n

There have been three rounds of meetings with recognized national and state political parties, Agrawal said. At least three times, the parties have been informed that candidates’ criminal histories must be published in the media.<\/p>\n

As part of Covid-19 management, a state-specific plan is also being prepared, said the CEO. During the meeting, it was decided that people on election duty would receive cashless treatment, rapid response teams, air ambulances, and 24*7 control rooms would be established.<\/p>\n

Agrawal said that in addition to deploying micro-observers, all critical and vulnerable polling stations will be broadcast online and additional Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel will be stationed there.<\/p>\n

The vehicle requirements have been determined. The polling and security personnel will require as many as 6,588 different types of vehicles.<\/p>\n
