Assam, Dec 15:<\/strong> In the Cachar district of Assam along the interstate border with Manipur, suspected NSCN(IM) militants killed a person on Tuesday after firing on villagers who refused to accept their demands.<\/p>\n

The Assam-Manipur border, which the militants occasionally use as a transit route, is just 500 meters from the remote village of Samtila where the incident occurred, said Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur.<\/p>\n

Around ten cadres of the NSCN(IM) visited the village in the morning and demanded something, such as accommodation. They did not agree, as a result of which an altercation ensued, Kaur stated.<\/p>\n

The militants, however, failed to convince them and then fired on the villagers, she added.<\/p>\n

A person was injured in the firing, and he was taken to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). He is in stable condition, Kaur said.<\/p>\n

As a result, the SP said that police have “dominated<\/strong>” the area, and a search is underway for the suspect.<\/p>\n
