Guwahati, Jan 02:\u00a0<\/strong>The police, district administrations, transportation, and excise departments across the state clamped down on drunk driving for New Year’s eve, ensuring there was no road mishap.<\/p>\n

A total of 69 accidents occurred in the state between December 31, 2020, and January 1, 2021, resulting in 29 fatalities.<\/p>\n

In the state last year, more than 6,800 accidents occurred, which resulted in approximately 2,800 fatalities.<\/p>\n

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister<\/a><\/span>, went out into the streets to support the officers and remained there until early Saturday morning to boost their morale. He said no road mishap occurred last night.<\/p>\n

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was out on Guwahati Street, standing shoulder to shoulder with traffic cops, checking for drunken driving as a part of a massive drive by his government.<\/p>\n
