The development comes after the central government cut excise duty on petrol by a record Rs 8 per litre and that on diesel by Rs 6 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>The cut was estimated to translate into a reduction of Rs 9.5 per litre in petrol prices and Rs 7 per litre in diesel, after taking into account its impact on other levies.<\/p>\n<p>Petrol and diesel prices in Guwahati are now among the cheapest in India. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shares their deep gratitude to PM Modi for the directive to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel.<\/p>\n<p>He shares the news on Twitter by saying that <strong>\u201cMy deep gratitude to Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji for his directive to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel. Earlier, following his directive, the BJP-led state govt had reduced taxes on fuel. Announcing the decision to cut the central excise duty, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said in a tweet, <strong>\u201cWe are reducing the central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on Diesel by Rs 6 per litre. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre.
