New Delhi, July 21:\u00a0<\/strong>NDA’s presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu has swept the third round of counting of the Presidential Election. The counting of votes for the presidential election is underway at the Parliament House.<\/p>\n

Droupadi Murmu and Opposition Yashwant Sinha are pitted against each other in the contest, with voters clearly stacked in Murmu\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n

If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post in the country.<\/p>\n

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Droupadi Murmu is going to win by a huge margin. He said India is going to get its first-ever tribal woman as its President.<\/p>\n

“This is a historic moment for the people of India,”<\/strong> Assam CM said.<\/p>\n

A large crowd gathered outside BJP Headquarters in Delhi for celebrations as NDA’s Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu got closer to victory.<\/p>\n

After the second round of counting, NDA<\/a><\/span>‘s presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu secured 1,349 votes valued at 4,83,299. Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha got 537 votes.<\/p>\n

“I include the earlier results of Parliament, the grand total so far is 1,886 valid votes valued at 6,73,175 out of which Droupadi Murmu gets 1,349 votes valued at 4,83,299. Yashwant Sinha gets 537 votes, valued at 1,89,876 so far,”<\/strong> PC Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha.<\/p>\n

Residents in Odisha’s Rairangpur, the hometown of Murmu, are already celebrating. They have got 20,000 sweets prepared. A tribal dance and victory procession is part of the plan after the results are out.<\/p>\n

The winner of the\u00a0Presidential election is not the candidate who gets only the most votes, but the one who crosses a quota. This quota is determined by adding votes polled for each candidate, dividing by two, and adding ‘1’ to it. Basically, one more than 50 percent. If someone does not cross this at first, subsequent preferences marked on the ballot paper come into play.<\/p>\n
