{"id":19882,"date":"2022-08-05T19:21:03","date_gmt":"2022-08-05T13:51:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/?p=19882"},"modified":"2022-08-05T19:21:03","modified_gmt":"2022-08-05T13:51:03","slug":"for-the-first-time-assam-awards-govt-employees-for-ethics-discipline-and-punctuality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/for-the-first-time-assam-awards-govt-employees-for-ethics-discipline-and-punctuality\/","title":{"rendered":"For the first time, Assam awards govt employees for ethics, discipline and punctuality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Guwahati, Aug 05:<\/strong> In a first, 99 non-gazetted state government employees in Assam were on Friday presented with Lok Sewa Puraskar (Public Service Award) for dedication, work ethics, and punctuality.<\/p>\n<p>While 89 employees were awarded district-level awards in different districts, 10 other employees selected at the state level were presented with the awards by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a function in Guwahati.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were presented on the occasion of Lok Kalyan Diwas to mark the death anniversary of Assam\u2019s first chief minister and Bharat Ratna, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gopinath_Bordoloi\">Gopinath Bordoloi<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The awardees were presented with a year\u2019s extension of service, \u20b925,000, and a citation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cBordoloi\u2019s contribution to the nation and Assam has been immense both prior to Independence when he tried to protect the state from unchecked migration from East Bengal (present Bangladesh) and after Independence when he worked tirelessly for Assam\u2019s all-round development,\u201d<\/strong> said Sarma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe decided to mark his death anniversary as Lok Kalyan Diwas with respect to Bordoloi who spent his entire life in public service and start a new initiative of awarding state government employees based on their work ethics, honesty, punctuality and other human values,\u201d<\/strong> he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Glad to present Lok Sewa Award, instituted by our Govt to promote good work culture, to non-Gazetted officials \u2013 10 at State level &amp; 89 at district level.<\/p>\n<p>Also launched the process of shredding old files at Assam Secretariat to mark the culmination of Mission Sadbhavana Phase I. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nlit4pzZxY\">pic.twitter.com\/nlit4pzZxY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/himantabiswa\/status\/1555493213648998401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h6>According to the state government, the awards are presented to <strong>\u201cacknowledge, recognize, reward and record\u201d<\/strong> the performance of non-gazetted state government employees.<\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Also Read<\/span>: <\/strong><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/kadak-maal-tha-assam-police-uses-phir-hera-pheri-meme-to-warn-drug-mafia-check-it-out\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>\u2018Kadak Maal Tha\u2019: Assam Police Uses Phir Hera Pheri Meme to Warn Drug Mafia | Check it out<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The guideline for the selection process of the awardees, which was decided after proposals and suggestions from different districts and departments, listed work ethics, punctuality, and integrity as the three main criteria with an additional one of <strong>\u201cany other criteria which may be decided by the screening and or selection committee\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government constituted two committees, one for screening and another state level, for evaluation and selection of the proposals received from different districts and departments.<\/p>\n<p>The screening committee was headed by the secretary (general administration department) and the state-level committee was headed by the chief secretary.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the two committees were secretaries and joint secretaries from the personnel, administrative reforms and training, pension and public grievances, and finance departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe screening committee evaluated the proposals received from different districts in two sittings and placed them before the state level committee,\u201d<\/strong> said a state government note.<\/p>\n<p>The state-level committee scrutinized 259 proposals received from 35 districts and selected 89 employees for the district-level awards. Ninety-nine proposals were received from different departments and directorates for the state-level awards of which 10 were finally selected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA government becomes unsuccessful when people who come to offices for their work leave with bad experiences from their interactions with employees. I want such a government and state secretariat from where visitors leave with praise about employees,\u201d<\/strong> said Sarma.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping a check on corrupt practices, the CM also mentioned how the vigilance and anti-corruption departments have nabbed two employees on a daily basis for accepting bribes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cEarlier there was no scope for recognition for non-gazetted employees, but now we have this opportunity. We are happy that the government decided to honour awardees on the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi,\u201d<\/strong> said Basab Kalita, adviser, Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad 9SAKP), the umbrella organization of state government employees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere will be good and bad employees in all sectors, but awards like this encourage those working sincerely. Now there will be competition among employees and it will improve productivity.
