Silchar, Oct 23:\u00a0<\/strong>Smugglers have modified their modus operandi after the police tightened their nostril on them to test the smuggling of betel nuts from Myanmar through the use of Mizoram and Assam as a corridor, stated a police supply on Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to a senior police officer in South Assam\u2019s Cachar district, after bringing betel nuts to Mizoram via the Champai border in Myanmar, they are stored in different warehouses in the Vairengte area.<\/p>\n

After that, the smuggled betel nuts have been transported to Assam in vans earlier. The smugglers have been following this tactic for a protracted time.<\/p>\n

However, due to an increase in vigilance at the Lailapur check post of the Assam-Mizoram border in the Cachar district, the smugglers have been forced to change their tactic, the police officer said.<\/p>\n

He added that now the smugglers use small vehicles and alternate routes through villages for avoiding police checking at the Lailapur<\/a> <\/span>check post.<\/p>\n

In village routes, police surveillance is quite much less and the smugglers are taking benefit of this.<\/p>\n

Moreover, it is easy to avoid public attention while using small vehicles for the illegal transport of betel nuts. Additionally, if the consignment is stuck via way of means of the police on the grounds that a small range of betel nuts have been smuggled, the loss incurred via way of means of the miscreants can also be much less.<\/p>\n

After crossing the Assam border, the betel nuts are being saved once more in the Umkiang area of Meghalaya.<\/p>\n
