Morigaon, Dec 24:\u00a0<\/strong>27 families and 17 shops were evicted from a school land, which they allegedly encroached upon, in the Morigaon district of Assam on Friday, an official said.<\/p>\n

The alleged encroachers have been evicted through police and revenue officials from the ground of Barthal Doligaon Higher Secondary School in Lahorighat, he stated.<\/p>\n

The eviction drive was carried out in accordance with the rules, Circle Officer of Lahorighat SR Lagachu told reporters.<\/p>\n

Eviction drive on illegal encroachment will continue according to the government’s directive, he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, one of the biggest eviction drives in the state was conducted at Batadrava in neighboring Nagaon district. Batadrava<\/a> <\/span>is the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva. This affected around 5,000 people.<\/p>\n

Following the drive, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said to the state assembly that eviction was a continuous process and would be carried out to clear government and forest lands.<\/p>\n

About 20.83 lakh acres of government land was under encroachment in the state, according to a 2017 report submitted by a government-constituted committee. The committee was headed by former chief election commissioner HS Brahma.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
