North Garo Hills, Jan 16:\u00a0<\/strong>All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee is slated to visit Meghalaya on January 18 for a public meeting in the North Garo Hills district, the party announced on Sunday.<\/p>\n

As per the statement released by the party, it is mentioned that \u201cThe All India Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee is slated to visit Meghalaya on January 18 for a public meeting in the North Garo Hills district, the party announced on Sunday. This will be her second visit to Hill State. The Hon\u2019ble Chairperson will conduct a public meeting at the Dilma Apal Playground, Mendipathar, North Garo Hills on Wednesday noon and will be accompanied by the National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

AITC MP and Leader of AITC Parliamentary Party in Rajya Sabha Derek O\u2019Brien, Meghalaya TMC State-in-Charge Manas R. Bhunia, Meghalaya TMC State President Charles Pyngrope, and Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma<\/a><\/span> will also be in attendance at the public event.<\/p>\n

In December last year, Mamata Banerjee was on a two-day visit to the capital city of Shillong where she launched Meghalaya TMC\u2019s unique financial assistance scheme for women \u2013 WE Card \u2013 which has garnered over 3.14 lakh registrations so far.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Meghalaya last month to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North-Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong.<\/p>\n

The TMC has been trying to strengthen its foothold in the northeastern state along with Assam and Tripura in the region.<\/p>\n

In November 2021, 12 of the 17 MLAs of the Congress in Meghalaya joined the TMC, making it the principal opposition party in the 60-member assembly of the hill state.<\/p>\n

During her visit in December last year, Mamata Banerjee launched Meghalaya TMC\u2019s financial assistance scheme for women, which has recorded over 3.14 lakh registrations so far, the party statement said.<\/p>\n
