Agartala, Jan 23:\u00a0<\/strong>With growing signs of isolation in Tripura, the ruling BJP might be watching the parting of ways by one of its key allies withinside the poll-bound state, the Indigenous People\u2019s Front of Tripura (IPFT).<\/p>\n

In a closed-door meeting between IPFT chief Prem Kumar Reang and another influential tribal faction chief Pradyot Manikya Debbarma of the TIPRA<\/a> <\/span>Motha in Guwahati, the two sides decided to fight the February 16 Assembly polls together.<\/p>\n

In the 60-member Assembly, one-third of seats fall in tribal areas. In 2018, the IPFT allied with BJP whilst the opposition \u2013 the Congress and the Left \u2013 stood divided.<\/p>\n

This time, now no longer best the tribal parties demanding \u2018Greater Tipraland\u2019<\/strong> have come closer but also Congress and CPM have allied, severely obstructing the BJP\u2019s attempt to return to power.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought we should join forces fighting for Greater Tipraland. We have decided to fight the polls together with TIPRA Motha,\u201d <\/strong>Reang said.<\/p>\n

The IPFT said it had fought the 2018 polls, winning 8 seats, together with the BJP (36) hoping to achieve a separate state for the tribals in Tripura. \u201cHowever, the BJP-led NDA government did not even discuss the demand,\u201d<\/strong> said Reang.<\/p>\n

Debbarma, the royal scion, said the two parties agreed to contest with the same flag and symbol against anyone opposed to the \u201cconstitutional demand of Greater Tipraland\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
