Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor informed that <strong>&#8220;A total of 3,419 polling teams have been deployed for the elections to the 59 assembly seats.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Total of 974 teams left for their polling booths on Saturday. Till 9.30 pm, braving unfriendly terrains and water bodies, 893 polling teams reported that they reached their destinations,&#8221;<\/strong> he said.<\/p>\n<p>The polling teams are trekking steep mountain paths, crossing muddy rivers, transcending difficult terrains &#8212; in some areas through ropeways, to reach their destinations, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Election officials had to row a boat to reach the Amlarem constituency&#8217;s Kamsing polling station which has only 35 voters, Kharkongor said.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 696px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-23244-1\" width=\"696\" height=\"1237\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/www.northeastrising.in-6-2.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/www.northeastrising.in-6-2.mp4\">https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/www.northeastrising.in-6-2.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>Some teams even used traditional Khasi basket &#8216;khoh&#8217; to carry the EVMs and other polling materials to ensure that <strong>&#8220;no voter is left behind&#8221;<\/strong>, he said.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Also Read<\/span>:<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/on-camera-man-collapses-during-haldi-ceremony-watch-video\/\"><strong>On Camera, Man Collapses During \u2018Haldi\u2019 Ceremony | Watch video<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The election officials sent to the Rongcheng polling station in Rongara Siju constituency in <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/southgarohills.gov.in\/\">South Garo Hills<\/a><\/span> had to trek for eight hours to reach. Some other teams also trekked for around four hours to reach their destination, he said.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 696px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-23244-2\" width=\"696\" height=\"1237\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Crossing-rivers-trekking-for-hours-election-officials-reach-polling-booths-in-Meghalaya.mp4?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Crossing-rivers-trekking-for-hours-election-officials-reach-polling-booths-in-Meghalaya.mp4\">https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Crossing-rivers-trekking-for-hours-election-officials-reach-polling-booths-in-Meghalaya.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>The remaining 2,445 polling teams will be leaving for their booths on Sunday, a day before the voting, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Meghalaya assembly has 60 seats, but polling for the Sohiong constituency in East Khasi Hills district was adjourned due to the death of UDP candidate HDR Lyngdoh.<\/p>\n<p>Of the total 3,419 booths, 640 have been identified as vulnerable.
