Weather Update, March 14:\u00a0<\/strong>If one had to explain how seasons work in India, 2023 would be a terrible example of a year. From a surprising summer-like February to uncharacteristic pre-monsoon-like conditions in mid-March, it feels like we’ve opened some mysterious Pandora’s weather box. Let’s look at what rainy shenanigans are afoot among the northeastern sister states this week.<\/p>\n

According to source at the India Meteorological Department (IMD<\/a><\/span>), a cyclonic circulation has set shop over South Assam.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, the interaction between a westerly trough \u2014 an extended low-pressure area \u2014 and easterly winds near Central and Northeast India will induce intense showers over the northeastern Indian states until Saturday (March 18).<\/p>\n

To be more specific, IMD forecasts isolated to scattered light rains over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura on Tuesday (March 14).<\/p>\n

After that, even more, intensification is in order, with lightning-laden thunderstorms and windy days (speed 30-40 kmph) to accompany light to moderate showers and persist from Wednesday to Saturday (March 15-18).<\/p>\n

While most parts will only see light rainfall, Arunachal Pradesh has decided to add some drama to the rainy script. On Wednesday, the state will see heavy rain (64.5 mm-115.5 mm) in localized areas. Some parts of northeast India may also witness hailstorms on this day.<\/p>\n

Due to this peculiar weather, more than half of India has been placed under a warning for rainfall activity, and it is not for the heatwave alert we usually see around this time. On Tuesday, the IMD even put all of the northeastern states on a rare orange alert (meaning take precautions against the hazardous weather). After that, only Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura will share the downgraded yellow watch on Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
