Itanagar, March 15: <\/strong>The United States recognizes the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and Arunachal Pradesh, in accordance with\u00a0a bipartisan Senate resolution recognizing Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India.<\/p>\n

“At a time when China continues to pose a serious and growing threat to the free and open Indo-Pacific, it is imperative that the United States stand by our strategic partners in the region, especially India,”\u00a0<\/strong>Senator Bill Hagerty, who along with Senator Jeff Merkley introduced a resolution in the Senate, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis bipartisan resolution expresses the Senate\u2019s support for unequivocally recognising the state of Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India, condemning China\u2019s military aggression to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control, and further enhancing the US-India strategic partnership and the Quad in support of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific,\u201d<\/strong> he said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Following the biggest clash between the Republic of India and China in the Eastern Sector along the Line of Actual Control in six years, the resolution reaffirms that the United States recognizes the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

The resolution also rejects claims by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) that Arunachal Pradesh is increasingly aggressive and under the PRC territory policy expansionist the PRC.<\/p>\n

“American values of liberty and rules-based order must be at the core of all our actions and relationships around the world, significantly as the PRC government promotes an alternative vision,” <\/strong>Merkley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis resolution makes clear that the United States views the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the Republic of India\u2014not the People\u2019s Republic of China\u2014and commits the US to deepen support and assistance to the region, alongside like-minded international partners and donors,\u201d<\/strong> he said.<\/p>\n

The bipartisan Senators\u2019 resolution condemns additional China\u2019s provocations, including the People\u2019s Republic of China\u2019s use of military force to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control, construction of villages in contested areas, publication of maps with Mandarin-language names for cities and features in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and expansion of PRC territorial claims in Bhutan.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the resolution commends the Government of India for taking steps to defend itself against aggression and security threats from the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n

These efforts include securing India\u2019s telecommunications infrastructure; examining its procurement processes and supply chains; implementing investment screening standards; and expanding its cooperation with Taiwan in public health and other sectors.<\/p>\n

The resolution serves to strengthen further the US-India bilateral partnership regarding defense, technology, economics, and people-to-people ties. It promotes enhancing our multilateral cooperation with India through the Quad, the East Asia Summit alongside our partners in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN<\/a><\/span>), and other international fora.
