Guwahati, April 06: <\/strong>The recent comments by Assam BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on the Taj Mahal have sparked a heated debate across India. Kurmi stated that the Taj Mahal is not a symbol of love, questioning Emperor Shah Jahan’s love for his most-beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, in whose memory the monument was built.<\/p>\n

Kurmi’s comments have been criticized by many, who see them as an attempt to rewrite history and erase the contributions of the Mughal dynasty<\/a> <\/span>to Indian culture and architecture.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaj Mahal is not the symbol of Love. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his 4th wife Mumtaz. If he loved Mumtaz, then why he married three times more after the death of Mumtaz,\u201d<\/strong> Rupjyoti Kurmi said while talking to the media.<\/p>\n

The Taj Mahal is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world and is considered one of the greatest examples of Mughal architecture. Built-in the 17th century by Shah Jahan as a tribute to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the monument has stood the test of time and has become a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

Kurmi also demanded an investigation to find out what happened to Shah Jahan\u2019s three other wives. “If the Taj Mahal is considered as an epitome of the love of Shah Jahan and his fourth wife Mumtaj Mahal, then what happened to his other three wives? An investigation should be initiated,”<\/strong> the Assam BJP leader demanded.<\/p>\n

The white marble mausoleum is adorned with intricate carvings and is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, making it a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Kurmi’s comments have not only angered historians and architects but have also caused outrage among the general public. Many see his statements as an attack on India’s cultural heritage and an attempt to push a political agenda.<\/p>\n

The BJP legislator had earlier urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demolish both the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, replacing them with grand temples. This statement also attracted widespread criticism from various sections of society.<\/p>\n
