Aizawl, April 19:\u00a0<\/strong>As temperatures continue to rise in Mizoram, the Lawngtlai district administration has decided to change the school timings to protect students from the scorching midday sun.<\/p>\n

The school timings were changed from 6 am to 9 am to ensure that students do not have to attend classes during the hottest part of the day. The state has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, with the mercury touching 33 degrees Celsius on Sunday.<\/p>\n

While the maximum temperature dipped to 32 degrees Celsius on Monday, people were sweating almost everywhere in the state.<\/p>\n

The average temperature in Mizoram during summer is 20 to 30 degrees Celsius and 11 to 21 degrees Celsius during winter, according to data from the state government. The state’s science and technology department officials regarded 36.5 degrees Celsius, recorded on April 13, 2017, as unprecedented.<\/p>\n

The State Meteorological Centre has stated that 31 degrees Celsius is considered “high” by Mizoram standards. Therefore, Sunday’s 33 degrees Celsius was also considered extremely warm in this hilly state.<\/p>\n

With warnings over ultra-violet rays and the risk of dehydration circulating on social media, the majority of people opted to stay indoors. Some netizens appealed to the state school education department authorities to close schools.<\/p>\n

Despite these appeals, the school education department officials stated that they would issue instructions to school authorities but that there is no need to shut classes. Officials from the State Meteorological<\/a> <\/span>Centre have said that April is typically the hottest month of the year in Mizoram, and the temperature is increasing each year.<\/p>\n

The decision to change school timings in the Lawngtlai district was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students. Extreme heat can cause dehydration and heat exhaustion, which can be especially dangerous for young children.<\/p>\n

This move by the district administration has been welcomed by many, as it shows that they are taking the necessary steps to protect the students.<\/p>\n

As temperatures continue to rise, it is essential that people take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. This includes staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding strenuous activities outdoors.<\/p>\n
