Agartala, April 27:\u00a0<\/strong>After being shut down for more than two years owing to the Covid-19
\nthe outbreak, Border Haat in Srinagar, which is situated in the South district of Tripura, will reopen on May 9.<\/p>\n

The decision came about following a meeting of the joint Border Haat management committee, which was attended by representatives of Bangladesh’s Feni district administration and South District Tripura administration.<\/p>\n

The central government has taken the appropriate actions to reopen the border haats in the state that have been closed since the country was hit by Covid-19.<\/p>\n

The committee has decided that 54 vendors from both India and Bangladesh would be able to sell their wares and that approximately 2400 buyers\u20141200 from each side\u2014will be permitted to visit the Haat each day.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the two nations have also agreed to build women’s restrooms and have spoken about methods to expand the number of sellers.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Biplab Kumar Deb, a former chief minister and member of parliament, demanded that border haats be reopened in the Rajya Sabha.<\/p>\n

According to MP Deb, Covid 19 caused the border haats in Kamlasagar, in the Sepahijala District, and Srinagar, in the South District, to cease operating. Both of these haats are a major source of income for numerous people, thus they must be quickly reopened.<\/p>\n

In this regard, former CM Deb received a letter from Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, dated April 3, 2023, that read in part, Please refer to the matter raised by you by way of Special Mention in Rajya Sabha on 15th December 2022 regarding “Demand for Reopening Border Haat at Tripura Bangladesh border”. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Functioning of the border haats at Kamlasagar<\/a><\/span>, District Sepahijala, and Srinagar, District Gomati were suspended due to Covid 19. We are continuously raising the matter of re-
\nopening of border haats at Kamlasagar and Srinagar (both in Tripura) in bilateral meetings with Bangladesh. We are hopeful of an early resolution of this matter.<\/p>\n

Along with the two border haats already in operation, Tripura also intends to establish two additional trading posts in Kamalpur in the Dhalai district and the Dharmanagar subdivision of the North district.<\/p>\n

According to officials, the Kamalpur border haat’s foundation stone has already been placed. Seven border haats have already been created between India and Bangladesh, and nine more are planned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
