Bangladesh, May 11:\u00a0<\/strong>Cyclone Mocha, which started as a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal, has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is now moving northwest at a speed of 8 kmph. According to reports, the storm is expected to continue to intensify and become a severe cyclonic storm around midnight on May 11th.<\/p>\n

It is then expected to move northwest and become a very severe cyclonic storm by May 12th evening. The peak intensity of the storm is predicted to occur around May 13th evening.<\/p>\n

After that, it is expected to weaken slightly and cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox\u2019s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) around forenoon on May 14th, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 120-130 kmph, gusting to 145 kmph.<\/p>\n

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for fishermen and advised them not to venture into the sea during the next few days.<\/p>\n

The IMD has also issued a warning for heavy rainfall and strong winds in parts of West Bengal and Odisha, which may cause damage to crops, trees, and structures. The authorities in Bangladesh and Myanmar have also been alerted about the approaching cyclone, and preparations are being made to minimize the impact of the storm.<\/p>\n

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF<\/a><\/span>) and the Indian Coast Guard have been put on standby, and rescue teams have been deployed to the areas likely to be affected by the storm. Cyclones are not uncommon in the Bay of Bengal, and they often cause significant damage to life and property in the region.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Cyclone Amphan caused extensive damage in parts of West Bengal and Odisha, claiming the lives of over 100 people and causing billions of dollars in damages.<\/p>\n

The government and other agencies must ensure that adequate measures are taken to mitigate the impact of the cyclone and prevent any loss of life. This includes providing timely warnings and evacuating people from the affected areas, as well as ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place to deal with the aftermath of the storm.<\/p>\n
