Aizawl, May 16:\u00a0<\/strong>The state of Mizoram has been severely affected by ‘Cyclone Mocha’, resulting in significant damage to infrastructure and displacement of residents. Officials have reported that a total of 236 houses and eight refugee camps have been damaged in various parts of Mizoram.<\/p>\n

Out of the 236 houses, 27 were completely destroyed, while 127 houses suffered partial damage. The district of Siaha, located in the southern region of Mizoram near the border with Myanmar, bore the brunt of the cyclone, with 101 houses and two relief camps experiencing damage.<\/p>\n

The powerful winds caused by ‘Cyclone Mocha’ impacted over 50 villages, affecting a total of 5,749 people. Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties as a result of the cyclone.<\/p>\n

The super cyclone, known as ‘Mocha,’ made landfall along the coasts of Myanmar and Bangladesh. It rapidly intensified into a Category-5 storm, leading to extensive destruction along the southeastern coastlines. In preparation for the cyclone’s impact, over 500,000 people residing in low-lying areas were evacuated.<\/p>\n

The cyclone hit the Teknaf shorelines before crossing the Naf River, which acts as a border between Bangladesh and Myanmar<\/a><\/span>. As per the latest reports, Myanmar has recorded a death toll of 29 due to the cyclone’s devastation.<\/p>\n

However, it is worth noting that the cyclone had largely subsided by late Sunday, resulting in no casualties among the nearly one million Rohingya refugees residing in camps in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, there were reports of fatalities in the Khaung Doke Kar village tract northwest of Sittwe, as shared by a Rohingya camp leader. At least 24 people lost their lives in this area, which houses Rohingya villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Additionally, several individuals were reported missing in this low-lying region.<\/p>\n

The military junta in Myanmar confirmed that at least five people were killed, and some residents sustained injuries due to the cyclone’s impact. However, specific details regarding the affected areas and individuals were not provided in the statement.<\/p>\n
