Weather Update, May 23:\u00a0<\/strong>Starting today and lasting until May 27, a thunderstorm warning has been issued for several districts in North and South Bengal.<\/p>\n

The alert comes as a result of the anticipated formation of a Cyclonic Circulation over Jharkhand and the surrounding area, coupled with a significant influx of moisture from the Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n

As a consequence, an increased likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and hail is expected across the affected districts during this period.<\/p>\n

The forecast indicates that rain and thunderstorms are very likely to occur in multiple locations throughout the districts of West Bengal between May 23 and May 27, 2023.<\/p>\n

South Bengal has been placed under an Orange warning, indicating a higher level of caution. On May 23 and 24, thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph, accompanied by lightning and hail, are expected in one or two places within the districts.<\/p>\n

On May 25, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph are likely to occur in isolated locations. From May 26 to May 27, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are expected in select areas across South Bengal.<\/p>\n

In North Bengal, a similar Orange warning has been issued. Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, and hail are anticipated in one or two places on May 23 and 24.<\/p>\n

On May 25, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to occur, with heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) expected in certain districts including Jalpaiguri<\/a><\/span>, Coochbehar, and Alipurduar. From May 26 to May 27, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are expected in the North Bengal districts.<\/p>\n

The possible impacts of these thunderstorms include damage to crops and horticulture, reduced visibility, damage to unsecured structures, and the risk of landslides in hilly areas.<\/p>\n

To stay safe during thunderstorms and lightning, it is advised to seek shelter in a secure location and avoid open areas. Taking cover under trees or near electric poles should be avoided. Additionally, using apps such as Damini for real-time lightning alerts can provide valuable information.<\/p>\n
