Kohima, July 06:\u00a0<\/strong>In the midst of mounting opposition to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC<\/a><\/span>) in Nagaland and other parts of Northeast India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly assured the state government that the UCC will not disrupt the lives of Christians and tribals.<\/p>\n

During a meeting in Delhi, Shah conveyed this assurance to a delegation led by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, which included Deputy Chief Ministers Yanthungo Patton and TR Zeliang, cabinet ministers, a Rajya Sabha MP, and the state Assembly speaker.<\/p>\n

A top source within the state government confirmed that Amit Shah had stated, “Uniform Civil Code will not disturb Christians and tribals,”<\/strong> adding that the meeting between the state government delegation and the Union Home Minister was productive. Nagaland is a land predominantly inhabited by tribals and has a Christian majority. Additionally, Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution provides special provisions for the state.<\/p>\n
