Shillong, July 21: <\/strong>Meghalaya cabinet has given the green light to a modest hike of 5 paise per litre for diesel prices. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma made the announcement after chairing a cabinet meeting, stating that the move is expected to generate additional revenue of Rs 5-6 crore annually.<\/p>\n

Diesel and petrol prices in Meghalaya have been among the lowest in the country, making the 5 paise increase a measured step to enhance revenue without imposing a significant burden on consumers. The government aims to strike a balance between meeting financial requirements and considering the impact on citizens.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the importance of fiscal stability and generating sufficient funds to support various developmental projects and public welfare initiatives. The modest diesel price hike is viewed as a pragmatic measure to achieve these objectives without causing undue hardship to the people.<\/p>\n

The decision to implement a minimal increase in diesel prices comes in the context of emerging economic challenges and the need to maintain a steady flow of revenue for the state. This move seeks to tap into the area’s vast tourism potential and promote sustainable tourism activities. With the acquisition of the land, the government will be better equipped to undertake tourism projects and enhance the overall tourism experience in the region.<\/p>\n

The decision to reduce the time frame for petrol pump owners to submit Value Added Tax (VAT) from 100 days to 30 days is another noteworthy move by the cabinet. This measure aims to streamline tax collection processes and ensure timely remittance of VAT, facilitating smoother governance and financial operations.<\/p>\n

As the government embarks on these measures to enhance revenue and bolster economic prospects, it remains committed to fostering inclusive growth and development across the state.
