Agartala, Sept 13: <\/strong>A five-member delegation representing the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) recently met with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to submit an 18-point charter of demands. These demands cover a range of issues concerning workers’ rights, including bonus payments, working conditions, minimum wages, and employment guarantees.<\/p>\n

One of the key demands presented by CITU is the timely payment of bonuses, particularly ahead of the Durga Puja festival. They emphasized the need for tea garden workers to receive a 20 percent bonus and called for strict action against employers who fail to make these payments promptly.<\/p>\n

CITU had organized a rally in the city on August 30, intending to present the charter of demands to the Chief Minister. However, due to the Chief Minister’s engagement in an election campaign at the time, the meeting was postponed until a later date.<\/p>\n

During their meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the CITU delegation discussed several important issues related to workers’ welfare.<\/p>\n

Some of the notable demands in the charter include:<\/p>\n

  1. Payment of Timely Bonuses:<\/strong> CITU<\/a><\/span> urged for bonuses to be paid at least one month before the Durga Puja festival to ensure that workers can celebrate the festival with financial security.<\/li>\n
  2. Bonus for Tea Garden Workers:<\/strong> The organization advocated for a 20 percent bonus for tea garden workers, acknowledging their significant contribution to the state’s economy.<\/li>\n
  3. Strict Action Against Defaulting Employers:<\/strong> CITU called for stringent measures to be taken against employers who fail to provide bonuses on time, emphasizing the importance of upholding workers’ rights.<\/li>\n
  4. Improving Working Conditions:<\/strong> The charter demanded the restoration of a safe and conducive working environment across all workplaces, promoting the well-being of workers.<\/li>\n
  5. Minimum Monthly Wages:<\/strong> CITU urged the government to set a minimum wage of \u20b926,000 per month, ensuring that workers can earn a decent living wage.<\/li>\n
  6. Employment Guarantees:<\/strong> The charter emphasized the need for providing 200 days of guaranteed employment per year under the Rural Employment Guarantee Act (Reag) and Tripura Urban Employment Program (Tuep).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Chief Minister has assured the CITU delegation that their demands will be given due consideration. This meeting signifies the ongoing efforts to address workers’ concerns and uphold their rights in Tripura.
