Shillong, Sept 22:\u00a0<\/strong>Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has found himself in legal trouble after businessman Henry Lalremsanga from Mizoram served him with a legal notice over Sangma’s “drug kingpin”<\/strong> remark. The notice was delivered by Lalremsanga’s legal team, representing the chairman of 2B’s Group of Companies.<\/p>\n

Sangma’s controversial statement labeling Lalremsanga as a “drug kingpin” was made during a media briefing. In response, the legal notice demands compensation of Rs 20 crore for the damage inflicted on Lalremsanga’s reputation as a result of Sangma’s comments.<\/p>\n

The notice asserts that Sangma’s allegations, which have widely circulated, have caused significant harm to Lalremsanga’s personal and professional standing.<\/p>\n

It emphasizes that Lalremsanga faced wrongful arrest in 2013 in connection with a seizure of medical supplies, despite holding a valid license for such supplies. His discharge from the Special Court, ND & PS Act, Patiala House Court, New Delhi in 2018, was attributed to a lack of evidence of any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

The legal team further points out that Sangma’s recent defamatory statements, devoid of factual basis, have not only distressed Lalremsanga and his family but have also indirectly cast a negative light on the Mizo community.<\/p>\n
