Gangtok, Oct 07: <\/strong>The Land Revenue and Disaster Management department in Sikkim has established a dedicated team to oversee rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected Mangan district, with a particular focus on Dzongu and other impacted regions.<\/p>\n

The team includes key officials such as Secretary RDD, Tsewanag Gyatso (IAS); Additional Chief Engineer, Culture, Rimp Dorjee Lepcha; Divisional Engineer, Culture, Rapden P Kazi; and Joint Director, Science & Technology Department, Sonam Rinchen Lepcha. Additionally, one platoon of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF<\/a><\/span>) has been attached to the team to support their efforts.<\/h6>\n

This decision to form the team was made following approval from the Chief Secretary-cum-Chairman, State Executive Committee (SEC), and the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority. The team’s primary objective is to oversee and coordinate rescue, relief, and rehabilitation work in response to the flash floods that have caused extensive damage in the Himalayan state.<\/p>\n

In another development, Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang conducted a comprehensive tour of Rangpo and subsequently shifted his focus to Singtam town, which has been severely affected by the recent natural calamity. During his visit, he assessed the extent of damage, supervised ongoing relief and restoration efforts, and provided support to those in distress.<\/p>\n

At a relief camp, the Chief Minister announced an ex gratia payment of Rs. 4 lakhs to the families of Indian citizens who have been identified and located after losing their lives in the disaster. Additionally, he sanctioned immediate relief of Rs. 2000 for each individual sheltered in the relief camps.
