Gangtok, Oct 08:\u00a0<\/strong>Minister of State Home, Ajay Kumar, embarked on a two-day visit to the flood-affected state of Sikkim to assess the situation and meet with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. Their discussions primarily revolved around the ongoing challenges posed by the flash floods in the state and the concerted efforts to rescue stranded individuals and restore vital connectivity.<\/p>\n

During his visit, MoS Home Ajay Kumar emphasized the coordination between the central and state governments in addressing the crisis. He highlighted that both the Prime Minister and Home Minister have maintained continuous communication with Chief Minister Tamang to ensure swift and effective response measures.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the central government has assembled a dedicated team comprising officials from various ministries, including agriculture, transport and highways, power, water supply, and other relevant departments. This interdisciplinary team is slated to reach Sikkim promptly to assess the ground situation and extend necessary assistance.<\/p>\n

MoS Home Ajay Kumar has been personally involved in visiting several affected areas over the past three days, gaining firsthand insights into the gravity of the situation. He commended the dedicated efforts of Chief Minister Tamang and the state government officials in managing the crisis. Additionally, the Prime Minister and Home Minister have mobilized teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to expedite rescue and relief operations in Sikkim.<\/p>\n

Ajay Kumar affirmed that the Government of India stands firmly by the Chief Minister and the people of Sikkim during this challenging period. He reassured that every possible effort is being made to mitigate the crisis swiftly.<\/p>\n

During his visit, MoS Home Ajay Kumar also conducted an inspection of the flood-affected areas in Rangpo, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the situation on the ground. He chaired a significant meeting with the Chief Secretary and heads of various state government departments. The meeting saw the participation of senior officials from the Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organization (BRO), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL<\/a><\/span>), and NHPC.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Ajay Kumar extended his support to Sikkim Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during a meeting at the Raj Bhawan in Gangtok. He assured the Governor of the Centre’s unwavering commitment to providing all necessary assistance to the Himalayan state during this crisis.<\/p>\n
