Shillong, Oct 11:\u00a0<\/strong>Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has clarified that the state government is still actively considering the implementation of railway lines in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region, despite facing obstacles and opposition. This statement aims to address ongoing concerns and highlight the importance of involving all stakeholders in the decision-making process.<\/p>\n

Dhar, who oversees the Transport department, emphasized, “We are not dismissing the idea. We are still in the process of examination.”<\/strong> The proposed railway projects in the Khasi Hills region have faced resistance from various groups and pressure organizations, including the 22-kilometer Tetelia-Byrnihat tracks and the 108-kilometer Byrnihat-Shillong<\/a> <\/span>line.<\/p>\n

In light of these challenges, the Meghalaya government has initiated an exploration of the potential for railway connectivity in the East Jaintia Hills District. However, this effort has also encountered resistance from the local community.<\/p>\n

Dhar reiterated that the state government has not yet made a final decision regarding the continuation of these railway projects, emphasizing the importance of involving all stakeholders in the decision-making process. He explained, “This is because we need to first involve all stakeholders and only then will we make a decision.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recognizing the expected opposition to such projects, Dhar emphasized the government’s responsibility to raise awareness about the significance of railways for the state. He highlighted ongoing awareness programs conducted by deputy commissioners and stated, “We will maintain an open dialogue with stakeholders. If they oppose it, we will have to halt the project.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This statement from the Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister underscores the government’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive decision-making process regarding the proposed railway lines in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. It also reflects the need to balance development projects with the concerns and interests of local communities and stakeholders.
