Aizawl, Oct 22:\u00a0<\/strong>Mizoram is gearing up for its upcoming assembly polls, and the political landscape is heating up as prominent leaders from various parties prepare to campaign for their respective candidates.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Mizoram’s Mamit town on October 30 to rally support for the BJP’s contestants, according to a statement from a party official.<\/p>\n

Joining him on the campaign trail will be other prominent BJP leaders, including party president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.<\/p>\n

Mizoram BJP unit president, Vanlalhmuaka, revealed, “PM Modi is likely to visit Mamit town on October 30 and campaign for party candidates.”<\/strong> Additionally, Union Minister Nityanand Rai and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are also set to bolster the BJP’s campaign efforts in Mizoram.<\/p>\n

Rai is expected to campaign in Silsury, while Sarma will visit Mamit and Hachhek. The exact dates for their appearances are yet to be finalized. Notably, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, designated as the BJP’s election in-charge for Mizoram, is currently on the ground in the state.<\/p>\n

The BJP, in its election strategy, has put special emphasis on constituencies with significant linguistic minority populations, particularly areas inhabited by the Bru and Chakma communities. The party is vying for victory in 23 seats, with particular attention to 11 assembly constituencies within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, which has a substantial Mizo population.<\/p>\n

The BJP has also released a list of 40-star campaigners for the Mizoram assembly polls, indicating the significance it attaches to the state’s elections. However, Vanlalhmuaka noted that the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah remains uncertain at this time.<\/p>\n

The elections for the 40-member Mizoram assembly are scheduled for a single phase on November 7, with the counting of votes set to take place on December 3.<\/p>\n

Currently, 174 candidates, with 40 each from the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM<\/a><\/span>), and the Congress, have submitted their nominations for the electoral battle.<\/p>\n
