{"id":503,"date":"2020-01-23T17:29:11","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T11:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=503"},"modified":"2020-01-25T16:00:33","modified_gmt":"2020-01-25T10:30:33","slug":"644-insurgents-of-eight-militant-groups-surrendered-in-guwahati","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/644-insurgents-of-eight-militant-groups-surrendered-in-guwahati\/","title":{"rendered":"644 insurgents of eight militant groups surrendered in Guwahati"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-503-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GUWAHATI-JAN-23-ARMS-LAID-DOWN-BY-644-MILITANTS-3.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GUWAHATI-JAN-23-ARMS-LAID-DOWN-BY-644-MILITANTS-3.mp4\">https:\/\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GUWAHATI-JAN-23-ARMS-LAID-DOWN-BY-644-MILITANTS-3.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>A total of 644 militants of eight different militant groups of the state on Thursday surrendered with their arms.<\/p>\n<p>In a function held at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) auditorium in Guwahati, the insurgents belonged to eight different outfits including United Liberation Front of Asom \u2013 Independence (ULFA-I), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Rava National Liberation Front (RNLF), National Liberation Front of Bengali (NLFB), Adivasi Dragon Fighter (ADF), National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) had laid down their arms before Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.<\/p>\n<p>Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and other senior officials of Assam government, Assam police and Indian army were also present in the function.<\/p>\n<p>The insurgents had deposited a total of 177 numbers of arms including AK series rifle, MQ rifle, 1686 rounds live ammunition, 52 grenades, 71 bombs, three rocket launcher cells, 58 magazines, 306 numbers of detonator, 1.93 kg explosives, two RT sets, 17 khukris.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-505\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-01.jpg?resize=696%2C474&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"696\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-01.jpg?w=696&amp;ssl=1 696w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-01.jpg?resize=300%2C204&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-01.jpg?resize=617%2C420&amp;ssl=1 617w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A total of 301 militants of NLFB, 178 militants of ADF, 87 militants of NSLA, 50 militants of ULFA-I, 13 militants of RNLF, eight militants of NDFB, six from KLO and one of CPI-Maoist had surrendered with their arms.<\/p>\n<p>Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that, those youths who strayed into terrorism and extremist activities must be given an opportunity to come back to the mainstream society and rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcome all members of extremist groups who have laid down their arms today to lead a normal life again and contribute meaningfully to the nation building process through hard work and dedication. It will inspire other such militant organisation members to come back to mainstream society,\u201d Sonowal said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-507\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nerising.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-03.jpg?resize=696%2C474&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"696\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-03.jpg?w=696&amp;ssl=1 696w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-03.jpg?resize=300%2C204&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/northeastrising.in\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/News-Images-03.jpg?resize=617%2C420&amp;ssl=1 617w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saying that building a terrorism-free Assam was one of the main commitments of the present state government, Chief Minister Sonowal urged the surrendered militants to dedicate themselves to the nation building process and utilise their potential to bring positive transformation in the society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeace is a prerequisite for ushering in development and the former militants must contribute towards sustaining peace and harmony in the society,\u201d Sonowal said.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s example, the Assam Chief Minister said people from all sections of the society must emulate the Prime Minister\u2019s dedication towards the objective of making India strong force at the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>Following Prime Minister Modi led central government\u2019s Act East Policy initiatives, the state government has been undertaking steps to make Guwahati the gateway to South East Asia and Assam\u2019s farmers have been able to export their produce to the markets of Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Dubai etc., the Chief Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the surrendered militants to come forward and take advantage of this positive environment to establish themselves in the society through hardwork and dedication.
