Assam, 22nd November: <\/strong>Bodoland People’s Front (BPF<\/a><\/span><\/span>) leader Biswajit Daimary tendered his resignation as a Rajya Sabha MP. He announced that he has quit the party and will join the BJP on Sunday.<\/p>\n

In a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, Venkaiah Naidu, Daimary wrote, \u201cAs per provisions of the Constitution of India, I hereby resign my membership in the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect. I, therefore, request that my resignation be accepted by you with immediate effect Meanwhile, Biswajit Daimary had earlier resigned from his post of working president in BPF on November 11. He is likely to join the BJP on Sunday. He stated that differences in opinion within the party have forced him to leave BPF.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAs I said, there are several reasons. While the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) agreement was meant to serve the community better, BPF is discarding it. As I intend to work for my people and community in general, I believe it has become difficult to work for me staying inside BPF,\u201d<\/strong> Daimary said.<\/p>\n

Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit<\/a><\/span><\/span> Daimary’s Rajya Sabha term was to end in 2026. These resignations have come just days before the election to the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Council, where the party has been in power for the past 15 years.<\/p>\n

The BJP is fighting the two-phased polls alone and against ally BPF. The election to the 40-member BTC will take place in two phases on December 7 and 10, while the counting will be held on December 12.<\/p>\n

The state unit of the BJP has already informed the central leadership that they would not like to extend the alliance with BPF for the 2021 assembly election.<\/p>\n

In the 2016 assembly election, the BJP and its allies had scored a historic victory. In the 126-member assembly, the BJP had won 60 seats, while allies BPF and Asom Gana Parishad had won 12 and 14 seats respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
