{"id":6108,"date":"2020-11-30T21:43:47","date_gmt":"2020-11-30T16:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=6108"},"modified":"2020-11-30T21:43:47","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T16:13:47","slug":"assam-call-to-renew-the-fight-against-caa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/assam-call-to-renew-the-fight-against-caa\/","title":{"rendered":"Assam: Call to renew the fight against CAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Assam, 30th November:<\/strong> An anti CAA forum of political parties and organizations in Assam called for a united fight against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act.<\/p>\n<p>The move appears aimed at galvanizing anti-CAA forces to pile pressure on the BJP-led government to get a new law revoked before next year\u2019s Assembly elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Coordination Committee against <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/anti-caa-groups-are-being-backed-by-the-bangladeshi-fundamentalist-groups\/\">Citizenship Amendment Act<\/a><\/span><\/span> (CCA CAA) will issue a public appeal for a united fight on December 12, the first anniversary of the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act that the organization will observe as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sankalpa\">Sankalpa Diwas<\/a><\/span><\/span> (Pledge Day).<\/p>\n<p>Most in Assam are opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Act because it provides for Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan entering India till December 2014. They see it as a threat to Assam\u2019s identity and culture and have held sustained protests that subsided because of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>We have decided to observe the first anti-CAA anniversary on December 12. We will not only be renewing our pledge to continue our fight against the unconstitutional law but will also appeal to all anti-CAA forces to put up a united fight against the law<\/strong>,\u201d CCA CAC chief coordinator Deben Tamuly said.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the movement will be the felicitation of the six persons who died in the crackdown against anti-CAA protesters last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>We will invite the families of the victims and felicitate them so people don\u2019t forget their sacrifice.
