{"id":6545,"date":"2020-12-17T13:11:45","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T07:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=6545"},"modified":"2020-12-20T14:25:21","modified_gmt":"2020-12-20T08:55:21","slug":"meghalaya-cm-conrad-sangma-approaches-centre-for-financial-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/meghalaya-cm-conrad-sangma-approaches-centre-for-financial-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma approaches centre for financial aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Meghalaya, Dec 17:<\/strong> Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has requested the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Central_government#:~:text=A%20central%20government%20is%20the,power%20over%20a%20unitary%20state.\">central government<\/a><\/span><\/span> to release the state\u2019s share from central taxes to bail out his government of the financial crisis that it is currently facing.<\/p>\n<p>Meghalaya depends hugely on central taxes, but the delay in the release of the share has further worsened the financial situation, says Conrad Sangma<\/p>\n<p>From April to October this year, Meghalaya received a share of Rs 2,273 crores, which is a deficit of Rs 727 crores from the budget an estimate of around Rs 3,000 crore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Overall, the financial position is not good, because we depend mainly on the share from central taxes. For a state like ours, the shortfall of Rs 727 crores is very big<\/strong>,\u201d Meghalaya chief secretary, M S Rao said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the economy in the country as a whole has been affected and economic activities are yet to resume fully because of restrictions imposed due to the ongoing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/covid-vaccine-tripura-to-receive-1-92-lakh-vaccines-in-the-first-phase\/\">Covid-19<\/a><\/span><\/span> pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, there is less spending when economic activities do not resume fully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>We hope Meghalaya\u2019s share would be better in the last three months of the current financial year<\/strong>,\u201d Rao said.<\/p>\n<p>He also dispelled the fear that government employees may not get their salaries because of the current financial crunch that the state is facing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meghalaya, Dec 17: Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has requested the central government to release the state\u2019s share from central taxes to bail out his government of the financial crisis that it is currently facing.
