{"id":7010,"date":"2021-01-01T17:12:44","date_gmt":"2021-01-01T11:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nerising.in\/?p=7010"},"modified":"2021-01-01T17:12:44","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T11:42:44","slug":"assam-cong-slams-bjp-for-police-assault-on-women-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northeastrising.in\/test\/assam-cong-slams-bjp-for-police-assault-on-women-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Assam: Cong slams BJP for police assault on women farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Assam, Jan 01:\u00a0<\/strong>The Assam Congress slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led a coalition government for alleged police brutality on the State\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nerising.in\/assam-govt-extends-the-validity-of-important-vehicle-document\/\">women<\/a> <\/span><\/span>farmers for resisting the takeover of their farmlands.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place at Bamuni Mikirgaon in central Assam\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nagaon.gov.in\/\">Nagaon<\/a><\/span><\/span> district. As per the reports, the police cane-charged some women who were protesting the government\u2019s bid to evict them from their farmlands on December 29. The government allegedly wants the land to be handed over to some private firms, the villagers said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAt a time when the entire country has been standing with the farmers, the BJP government in Assam has started violent attacks on farmers without even sparing the women in Nagaon,\u201d<\/strong> Congress spokesperson Bobbeeta Sarma said.<\/p>\n<p>About 100 indigenous farmers have been cultivating rice and bean on a sizeable chunk of land in the village for more than 20 years and according to the local unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), they have been paying revenue to the government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe will not tolerate such atrocities on peasants at a time when farmers are demanding the repeal of anti-farmer laws, brought about by the Centre,\u201d<\/strong> local AJYCP leader Deep Moni Bora said, adding that the police cane-charged the protesters \u2014 many of them women \u2014 without any provocation.<\/p>\n<p>A few farmers were injured in the clash with the police. The district police, however, blamed the farmers for the violence.
