West Bengal, Feb 22:<\/strong> A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) visited the residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir in Kolkata, West Bengal to examine her in connection with the coal smuggling case. Maneka Gambhir is the sister of Abhishek’s wife Rujira Banerjee.<\/p>\n

Two women officers of the central agency examined Maneka Gambhir at her residence in Kolkata on Monday after a notice was served to her on Sunday. The CBI had also issued summons to Abhishek Banerjee wife Rujira Banerjee in connection with the coal smuggling case.<\/p>\n

Rujira Banerjee had on Monday responded to the CBI<\/a><\/span> summons and requested the central agency to visit her at her residence for examination on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Rujira Banerjee told the CBI that she will be available for examination in connection with the case at her residence in Harish Mukherjee Road between 11 AM to 3 pm on February 23. The CBI has accepted the request. Rujira Banerjee will now be questioned on Tuesday at her residence.<\/p>\n

Abhishek, the Trinamool Congress’s Diamond Harbour MP, is the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.<\/p>\n

The CBI had registered an FIR in November last year against the alleged kingpin of the pilferage racket Manjhi alias Lala, Eastern Coalfield Ltd General Managers Amit Kumar Dhar (of the Kunustoria area now Pandaveswar area) and Jayesh Chandra Rai (Kajor area), besides ECL Chief of Security Tanmay Das, Area Security Inspector, Kunustoria Dhananjay Rai, and SSI and security in-charge Kajor area Debashish Mukherjee.<\/p>\n

It is alleged that accused Manjhi Lala is involved in the illegal mining and theft of coal from leasehold mines of ECL in Kunustoria and Kajora areas, sources said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
