Meghalaya, March 1:<\/strong> Joining a growing list of states across India with individual policies dedicated to the cause of encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in the region, Meghalaya has announced its own EV policy.<\/p>\n

Set to come into effect in the state starting from 1 April 2021, Meghalaya EV Policy 2021 will remain applicable across the state for the next five years.<\/p>\n

Its key goal, the policy document elucidates, intends to ensure a 15 per cent share for electric vehicles in Meghalaya by 2025.<\/p>\n

In the pursuit of the aforementioned goal as well as others, the state government intends to bring in roughly 20,000 electric vehicles<\/a><\/span> in Meghalaya within the next five years, i.e. till the state\u2019s EV policy 2021 remains in effect.<\/p>\n

This, it noted, will help save roughly 50 lakh litres of fuel. As a result, the state government expects a reduction of about 10,000 kg of CO2 on a daily basis and a reduction of over 36.5 lakh kg of CO2 annually.<\/p>\n

The policy document from the state government notes, \u201cVarious steps have been taken to ensure that EV gets priority over vehicles run on fossil fuels or internal combustion engine vehicles. This has been done to encourage the use of EVs to protect the environment and steadily cut the reliance on fuel import<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for encouraging the masses to adopt EVs in Meghalaya, the state government\u2019s new policy will also offer incentives to a limited set of folks who end up buying electric vehicles early on. Early EV adopters stand to gain significantly, basically.<\/p>\n

Here is a quick overview of the subsidies included in Meghalaya EV policy 2021 for EVs bought and registered in the state during the policy period:<\/span><\/h5>\n

  • Subsidy of \u20b910,000 per kWh for the first 3,500 electric two-wheelers<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Subsidy of \u20b94,000 per kWh for the first 200 electric three-wheelers and 30 electric buses<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Subsidy of \u20b94,000 per kWh for the first 2,500 electric four-wheelers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    As for the infrastructure, the state government will help establish charging stations across various state government facilities as well as public buildings like shopping malls, hotels, apartment complexes, cinema halls, etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
