Ambubachi Mela

Guwahati, April 29: The Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall hosted a meeting to discuss how to successfully organize the “Ambubachi Mela” which will take place from June 22 to June 26, 2023, in Guwahati. Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, an additional deputy commissioner (ADC), presided over the meeting.

Senior ‘Dolois’ (priests), Assam Police, District Administration officials in high positions, and Kamakhya Devalaya office holders were present at the meeting. According to the ADC, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration would coordinate with Kamakhya Devalaya and all departments to ensure that this year’s “Ambubachi Mela” runs hassle-free.

According to the ADC, last year’s camps for devotees were expanded from three to five, but this year the district administration plans to expand them even further.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) was given the task of adopting special efforts to ensure the cleanliness of the entire city of Guwahati, including the temple grounds, during the five-day “Ambubachi Mela” during the meeting.

The Nilachal Hills’ entire network of roads needed to be illuminated, and that duty fell to GMC. In contrast, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) would be in charge of lighting up significant locations, including as the Jalukbari flyover, the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra (Cemetery), the Balaji Temple, the Umananda Temple, and several city parks.

The Nilachal Hills temple’s main gate and the Kamakhya Temple’s grounds will both have health clinics established by the health department. While the five-day “Ambubachi Mela” will have an uninterrupted power supply thanks to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) will arrange for public transportation from various parts of Guwahati to the entrance gate of the temple below the Nilachal hills for worshippers.

The forest department has been tasked with cutting down the branches of all leaning trees near Kamakhya temple. The forest department has also been asked to stock up on anti-snake venoms and keep the snake rescuers in the loop.

During the five-day “Ambubachi Mela” the Public Health Engineering Department has also been instructed to take the required steps to ensure that there is never a water scarcity in the area around the temple and in the camps put up for the pilgrims.

The Guwahati Police Commissioner’s office will also develop a detailed plan to guarantee reduced traffic, crowd control, and the security of pilgrims throughout the fair (Mela).
