Border Bodo

Itanagar, Aug 21: Border disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in areas predominantly inhabited by the Bodo community, are on the brink of resolution, according to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

Speaking at the inaugural interactive session on ‘Understanding Socio-Cultural Issues of Bodos in Arunachal’ in Itanagar, CM Khandu emphasized that merely demarcating a boundary line is not the sole solution. Sustainable peace and progress require collaborative efforts and a spirit of unity among people residing on both sides of the border.

Khandu acknowledged that past efforts to address border disputes were hindered by the lack of commitment and clarity in the approach taken by previous governments, particularly Congress. He contrasted this with the resolute determination of the BJP-led government, stating that the BJP was resolved to make headway with the motto “Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi” (If not now, then never).

The Arunachal Pradesh CM underscored the importance of cultural cooperation between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and emphasized that both states are moving forward with conviction, openness, and a spirit of compassion. He credited the progress achieved in fostering harmony and peaceful coexistence among people living along the inter-state boundary to the NDA government at the center and BJP-led governments in the neighboring states, emphasizing their concerted efforts.

Khandu criticized the Congress for its historical neglect of the Northeast region, which he described as a “stepmotherly and irresponsible attitude.” He asserted that this attitude had caused significant harm to the Northeast, particularly Assam, leading to a period of turmoil characterized by violence, a gun culture, and insurgency.

However, Khandu noted a dramatic shift since 2014, attributing the return of peace and rapid development to the leadership of the NDA government. He emphasized that corruption had been one of the biggest impediments to development and peace in the region and placed the blame squarely on the Congress regime. He referred to “corruption” as a “gift” from the previous central government and highlighted his government’s determination to eliminate corruption across all levels of governance.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s remarks highlight the significant progress made in resolving border disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in areas with a significant Bodo population. He credits this progress to the collaborative efforts of the NDA government, BJP-led state governments, and all stakeholders.

Khandu also emphasizes the importance of cultural cooperation, unity, and the elimination of corruption in ensuring lasting peace and development in the region.
