Itanagar, Dec 22: Arunachal Pradesh government has approved the transfer of the murder case of former MLA Yumsen Matey to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

This decision follows a proposal from the state police department and aims to conduct a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.

Yumsen Matey, a well-known personality and the first graduate from the Ollo community was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on December 15th near the Indo-Myanmar border in the Lazu circle of Tirap district.

Matey had a notable political career, serving as an MLA for the 56th Khonsa West Constituency. He began his political journey as a Congress legislator in 2009 and later joined the BJP after the 2014 elections.

The assassination of Yumsen Matey has sent shockwaves across the state, prompting demands for a high-level investigation not only into the incident itself but also into the broader issue of insurgency in the Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region.

Deputy Home Secretary Likha Sampu confirmed the state government’s decision to transfer the case to the NIA after careful consideration. The Arunachal Pradesh Home Department has formally communicated the transfer request to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The move to involve the NIA in the investigation is seen as a significant step to address the serious concerns raised by both the opposition and the public. It underscores the need for a comprehensive inquiry into the regional leaders’ safety and a permanent resolution to the longstanding insurgency problem in the Tirap-Changlang-Longding area.
