Guwahati, April 22: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has expelled Dr. Angkita Dutta, the state youth president, from the party for six years due to her “anti-party activities.”

The decision was made after Dutta accused Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Srinivas BV and his IYC secretary in-charge Vardhan Yadav of “harassing” and “discriminating” against her for the past six months.

APCC President Bhupen Kumar Borah issued a show-cause notice to Dutta on Thursday and asked for an explanation in a short time. The notice came hours after Dutta filed a complaint against Srinivas BV at Dispur police station in Guwahati.

According to the Assam Police, a case was filed against Srinivas BV at Dispur Police Station under sections 509, 294, 341, 352, 354, 354A (iv), 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Read With (RW) Section 67 of The Information Technology Act. The APCC issued the show cause notice to Dutta on Thursday and gave her two days to reply.

On April 18, Dutta took to Twitter to accuse Srinivas BV of discriminating against her based on her gender. She said that despite bringing the issue to the attention of the leadership many times, they had played deaf ears.

Dutta, who claims to be a four-generation congresswoman and holds a Ph.D. from Guwahati University, also stated that she had been quiet for the sake of the party, but Srinivas BV’s harassment had not stopped.
