3. Assam Congress faces another setback with Narah’s resignation from primary membership.
Guwahati, March 25: In yet another blow to the Assam Congress, Bharat Chandra Narah has resigned from the party’s primary membership, signaling internal discord.
Narah’s departure follows his resignation as the chairman of the party’s media cell, underscoring dissatisfaction within its ranks.
In a concise resignation letter to National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Narah cited his immediate resignation from the Indian National Congress.
The catalyst for Narah’s decision was the party’s refusal to nominate his wife, Ranee Narah, for the Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency. Ranee, a former Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State during the UPA 2 government, lost the nomination bid to Uday Shankar Hazarika, a recent defector from the BJP to Congress.
Expressing his disappointment, Narah initially submitted his resignation letter to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bhupen Kumar Borah before meeting with party leadership in Delhi.

Despite the setback, Narah affirmed his continued dedication to the party’s cause. This development compounds the Congress’s existing challenges, particularly in light of defections to the BJP, complicating its electoral prospects.
Supporters of Ranee Narah vociferously advocated for her candidacy, highlighting her electoral victories and parliamentary experience.
Ranee, a former two-time Lok Sabha MP and one-time Rajya Sabha member, last won the Lakhimpur seat in 2009, subsequently serving in the Rajya Sabha from 2016 to 2022.
